"My paintings of outdoor markets, cafes and beach scenes evolved out of a desire to paint colorful, visually complex scenes full of varying shapes and patterns which I organize and simplify using contrasts of bright light and shadow. I photograph environments around the world that provide me with these visual elements. For me, a painting is a mystery that reveals itself. I concentrate on painting the spaces between objects rather than on the objects themselves. In this way, the objects reveal themselves to me. Soon I am creating the kind of spatial depth I seek in my work. All my paintings are oil on canvas and are created using palette knives."
